Sherman Oaks 2025–2026: Driving Ambitious Development Projects and Community Growth

Sherman Oaks is embracing a period of dynamic change, with several impactful projects set to enhance the community’s public spaces, recreation, and connectivity. Here’s a look at the most significant non-residential developments arriving or launching in Sherman Oaks through 2026:

East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project

A transformative infrastructure project is underway with the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit. This new line will feature 11 stations along a 6.7-mile southern segment, improving access to key Valley destinations and connecting Sherman Oaks residents to the broader Los Angeles transit network. Construction is ramping up, and while the full project is expected to finish in 2031, residents will see major progress and community engagement throughout 2025 and 2026, including utility upgrades and visible early work.

Sherman Oaks Elementary School Playground Modernization

A fresh, modern playground is coming to Sherman Oaks Elementary School, with construction scheduled from June to August 2025. The project will deliver new resilient surfacing, reconfigured landscaping and hardscape areas, improved fencing, and a new drinking fountain—making the space safer and more enjoyable for local families and students.

Community Vision and Park Advocacy

Sherman Oaks’ Neighborhood Council and community organizations are actively shaping the Southeast Valley Community Plan Update, advocating for a future with more green space, improved public amenities, and enhanced walkability. While specific new parks or sports centers are still in the planning stages, the community’s vision is clear: prioritize accessible recreation, public gathering spaces, and sustainable infrastructure for all who live, work, and visit Sherman Oaks.

Ongoing Park and Recreation Improvements

Sherman Oaks continues to benefit from citywide efforts to upgrade existing parks and recreation facilities. While no major new parks are breaking ground in 2025–2026, expect incremental improvements to playgrounds, sports fields, and public amenities as part of the city’s commitment to quality of life.
